The road to freedom is through laughter, and until he learns that, man will be enslaved, either subservient to his masters or fighting to serve under a new master. The masters know this very well and that is why they are masters. The last thing they will allow is unseemly laughter. In freer countries, every college has its humor magazine, but there are no such jokes in slave-holding nations like Nazi Germany or Arabia. Authority cannot be killed by force for wherever one head is cut off, another springs up in its place. It can only be laughed away, as Sun Tzu knew when he founded the science of military discipline. He first demonstrated this to the Emperor by using girls from the harem, but they giggled when he gave his orders. He knew that as long as they were laughing, discipline wouldn’t work. So he stopped their laughing by executing two of them, and after that the rest did as they were told–solemnly and indignantly. Conversely, no comedian has ever been the head of a state for very long; the people might stand it, but he couldn’t.

China recently surpassed Japan to become the largest holder of $833 billion of dollar reserves, most of which is thought to be invested in US Treasuries.

Before the man-on-man walk, the Preznit whined and begged:

"Last July, the Chinese made a major decision on their currency. There has been some appreciation in the currency. We would hope there would be more appreciation in the currency."

"(President Hu) recognizes that a trade deficit with the United States is essentially -- what it is, is unsustainable."

"Obviously, the Chinese government takes the currency issue seriously, and so do I."

"I appreciate his statement very much because the American people -- all we want to do is be treated fairly in the international marketplace."

Make Blueberry Cornbread

Blueberries [ 1½ cups] need no preparation, fresh [make sure they're dry] or frozen [don't thaw before adding to prepared batter]. Bake cornbread recipe of your choice [Jiffy, using buttermilk, in a pinch] until it's nicely browned [400 F] and pulling away slightly from the pan ~ about 25-30 minutes.

What Did The President Know & When Did He....

leak it? What else I'm curious about is:

1. did anyone warn Valerie Plame that her status as an undercover CIA agent was changed [when the president “declassified” that information to be “leaked” to Judy Miller];
2. if it were no longer classified because the president declassified it, why would it have to be “leaked” not just plain old vanilla announced;
3. why bother having a “leak of classified material” investigation if the material wasn’t classified;
4. why hasn’t Fitz just said, "Oops, no crime here, my bad. I’m wrapping up this expensive dog & pony show now, BYE!"; and
5. why didn’t Jerky Miller howl, "NONOWAIT, it’s not a crime to leak unclassified material, and anyway I’m too classy a dame to sit in prison for no GD reason a’tall"?

HUH?

They think we’re stupid.

Chávez says his country's oil reserves
may exceed Saudi Arabia's

Venezuelan president Hugo Chávez is poised to launch a bid to transform the global politics of oil by seeking a deal with consumer countries which would lock in a price of $50 a barrel.

A long-term agreement at that price could allow Venezuela to count its huge deposits of heavy crude as part of its official reserves, which Caracas says would give it more oil than Saudi Arabia.

"We have the largest oil reserves in the world, we have oil for 200 years." Mr Chávez told the BBC's Newsnight programme in an interview to be broadcast tonight. "$50 a barrel - that's a fair price, not a high price."
