Hi Jelly, I am glad you posted this Tribute to Steve Irwin. I will always remember him saying, "She-or-He, the animal, is a bit grumpy." We will all miss him so much. He was one-in-a-million. The irony of it all is we expected him to live forever because he never really seemed to face danger dealing with all those fierce animals. Then, to have him leave us this way, suddenly and by a stingray - not a venomous snake, spider, or a croc.” Stingrays are harmful, but who could have predicted that Steve, The Crocodile Hunter, would pass on due to a stingray? It was just his time, and that is that. Bonnie in Virginia
the spiders in my house can thank him for not getting smashed with a fly swatter...i tenderly carry them out on the same tool.
yeah, i think about what difficulties life outside their chosen territory might have in store, but at least thanks to steve the little beauties get a new lease on life and sometimes a name.
i imagine all who were touched by steve's love for the natural world and his open-hearted demeanor feel this, too, much like an emotional "dart to the heart" [thanks to bruce cockburn for that phrase].
may sacred solace embrace his grieving beloved family.
When i heard about the news, I was waiting for the punch line. But it never came. i cried when I saw it on TV. He was a great man and he will be greatly missed.
Jelly, Here is a link to a story and photo, which appears in The Hook newspaper today, 09/07/06, of Steve Irwin when he visited one of Virginia State's attactions, the Luray Zoo. This is a good story and photo, so I think everyone would like to see it. Thanks. http://www.readthehook.com/stories/2006/09/07/NEWS%20steveIrwin-f.doc.aspx
I sure did love him too, and appreciate the legacy he leaves behind, and all the good things he did for the world and the things that live in it. I am still mourning. (and I want that wombat).

I was thinking I was over the crying phase of his passing, but I guess I'm not.
